The More Experienced You Get, The More Disconnected?

With the last number of years terms like "expert" and such have flown around in a lot of good... and a lot of negative discussions.

I started to look around more throughout various online, and some offline communities. Both professional and entertainment focused. And I came to a realization.

The more experienced you get at a skill, that doesn’t involve direct socialization with other people, the more disconnected you become from actual normal people.

For example Scientists and Research Doctors will prescribe actual pain and toxic chemicals in order to "heal" someone because they only see procedures, and statistical probabilities. They stopped seeing people in need of care. They see textbooks and spreadsheets, not bodies other people have live in for the rest of their lives.

Or another example.

Musicians will start to only see the music or the music composition, instead of the people who listen to the music. And I'd argue this is especially true for worship leaders. They forget that their audience is a bunch of people coming in from their daily lives, stress, pain, drama, etc. They launch into the "perfect" set of musical songs for the "purpose of encouraging worship". But they don't take into consideration people are human beings, with complex lives and stresses. They often don't read the room. They don't steer towards community in their choice of songs or song order, they just do what's academically signaled to be "the most optimal" way to sing, in the most "optimal order of songs to encourage people to worship The Lord".

The list goes on and on:

• Lawyers see laws, not the lives of the people affected by those laws or legal outcomes.
• IT Professionals see systems, not the people that use the systems.
• Politicians look at the path to achieve the majority of votes, not what they are actually voting on.

While on the other hand, experts that work directly with people have a much better chance to stay ground in reality and real people's life experiences. Because they are reminded daily of other human beings and that other human beings have lives that are different than their own.

For example: Doctors, Tile Setters, Home Building Architects, Video Game Developers, etc. They have to stay connected to real people for their business to function, because they have to get information and feedback from people in order to do their jobs successfully.

Makes you wonder... and makes you think. About a lot of things.

But the question that comes to my mind is:

Am I someone who's losing touch with people because I continue to grow in skills and knowledge? Or am I staying grounded?
