Can Any Of Us Stay Focused On The Lord?

Everyone knows the meme / scene about the squirrel at this point. haha.

But on a serious note, and a faith note. Would you say you are good at staying focused on serving The Lord every day? I know I fail utterly at this myself.

What does that even mean perhaps? To stay focused on The Lord.

I think the apostle really highlighted it well when he talked about how married people are focused on married people things, and single people are focused on The Lord. Because they don't have competing focus to juggle.

It's not wrong to be married. It's not wrong to be focused on married things when you are married. That is in fact correct. But the reality of it is, that if you are focusing righteously on married things you are not focusing on The Lord in those moments. You cannot be focusing on 2 things at the same time. That's just impossible.

And again to be clear, there is nothing sinful about focusing on married things when you are married. That's being a good steward of what The Lord has given you.

Which brings us to the reality of real life. While our intentions are honorable and even obedient, actually living that out is a serious challenge. I don't know about you, but it is for me.

And while it’s possible, I guess, based on historical and Biblical figures. Those historical accounts don’t include their internal dialogue. Or their private moments. Which means we don't know how tough it was for them. We don't know their struggles or their doubts. We don't know their anxieties. We know the goal, the ideal, but we don't have struggles to latch onto.

One might argue The Lord kept us from reading that, on purpose. Because we would latch onto those struggles and try to normalize them in ourselves thousands of years later. And justify our lack of trying hard because of it...

But anyways, back to the question:

Can any of us stay focused on The Lord?

If you take into consideration our fallen sin nature, I am not sure that it’s possible for any serious length of time.

It's definitely and absolutely the goal we should all have. But don’t we all drift our attention throughout the day? It's easy to snap our focus on The Lord. But then work, family, obligations, stress, anxiety, worries, and everything else creep in and snare our focus, tugging at it and pulling it away without us realizing it.

It's a lot like listening to someone speak and suddenly you realize you're only half listening because your mind wandered onto something else. Then suddenly you realize "I was paying attention... until I wasn't...". And then you snap back to listening intently.

So the reality is that we all fall short, we all lose our focus.

We're all human.

And perhaps that's where truth and power can be realized.

Can any of us stay focused on The Lord?

No. The answer is no.

But that doesn't mean we cannot focus on The Lord

But that doesnt mean we give up trying.

But that doesn't mean we're not supposed to remember and put forth effort in staying focused on The Lord.

What it means perhaps. Is that we have to keep reminding ourselves to remember. Yes remind ourselves to remember to focus on The Lord.

Remind yourself, to remember, to focus on The Lord.
