Whether You’ve Been A Christian For 80 Days Or You’re Not

Whether You’ve Been A Christian For 80 Days Or You’re Not

There's a truth that is often talked about or eluded to, that I never really took the time to think about before.

Our knees.

Most people find their knees at the peak of the mountain, or the bottom of a dark pit.

It’s almost never the path strolling through the neighborhood on a sunny day with the wind in your hair. It's almost never the hike through the forest laughing with the love of your life. It's almost never the drive through town of an average day of stress or schedules or work.

It's almost always:

The gratitude of the peak
or
The despair of the dark pit

It's the times in our life that force us to shed the skin of self importance like a snake sheds its skin. It's the times in our life that force us to take our eyes off ourselves, to not focus so much on self that our grip on our gaze is released.

It's the times in our life that take us out of self, and our thoughts and emotions and spirit are able to cleanly unite in appreciation, awareness, gratitude, desperation, need, or our inability to save ourselves.

The problem is that just like the snake, even when you shed the skin itself, a new skin has already been forming...

Have you ever stopped to think about that? Think back to a moment where you hit your knees, honestly hit your knees. And how long was it till you lost that focus and you drifted back to thinking about other things?

This is something many, including me have lost sight of. You cannot ever be free. It’s a cycle that cannot be stopped. Cannot be paused. Cannot be changed.

Self becomes focus over and over... and over.

We have to keep shedding self over and over.

We have to remember that self will become a hard skin covering us again.

But

We also know we can shed that skin of self and hit our knees again as well.
