What You Watch Really Does Shape Your ~Brain~

For decades the debates have raged about "TV" and "Shows" and such.
40 Years ago they used to say that "TV Rots your brain" and similar thoughts.
What if they were wrong, about being right?
Now everyone is going to read that last sentence differently. haha
But consider this. What if they were in fact right that shows often have a negative impact on your brain. But they didn't understand or talk about it in a correct way. Largely because they were only vaguely correct and didn't actually know much about visual media (aka TV) at the time.
Question for you:
Have you ever had anxiety for days after watching some media? Whether TV, Netflix, at a movie theatre?
What about fear?
What about nightmares or daytime visions from the scary movie?
What about depressing thoughts? or high blood pressure?
Have you ever watched something in your feed that made you paranoid?
Or, most often for everyone, have you watched media and been angry at a group of people who are different from you, as a result?
How many of those lasted days? or worse, came back weeks or months later when you weren't even thinking about it?
Still unconvinced?
Well it's well established scientific fact that watching porn causes actual physical changes to a persons brain. And not just men, women too.
Do you REALLY think it's only "the porn" in "watching porn" that can impact your brain?
That would be naïve to believe only a specific type of media would cause issues. It's far more reasonable to accept that watching any and all media can impact your brain. What you actually watch will determine how it's affecting your brain.
If we know conclusively that porn destroys your minds ability to have a good and healthy relationship, as well as causing your ability to have normal sexual relations to decline horrifically. Why would other things we watch not have impacts? Porn is not unique.
So let's join the reasonable party, and accept the basic truth. Watching movies, streams, social media feeds, and shorts can and will:
- Impact your personality, for healthy or for unhealthy
- Impact your beliefs, for truth or for lies
- Impact your mental health, for strength or for depression
- Impact your perspective of other groups of people, for love or for anger
- Impact your ability to socialize, for community or for isolation
- Impact your blood pressure, for health or for death
- Impact your stress levels, for happiness or for pain
Now the question for each of us to ask ourselves:
Is what I am watching:
Improving my brain and therefore my life?
Or
Hindering my brain and therefore making my life worse?
