Is It Righteous To Be Against The Death Penalty?
There's a public trial going on right now with a woman who admits to brutally murdering her 3 children.
The internet is chaos on the topic of course. Like everyhthing else. And most of it's because people only get their information from meme accounts, grifters, drama queens, and people who are hallucinating.
Now I am not getting into that case. But the case does bring up the topic of the death penalty.
For decades, in my experiences, Christians have been against the death penalty. Especially Christian women. Now admitted that is anecdotal. So don't come at me, haha.
But my question to my brothers and sisters in Christ. Is
Should we be against the death penalty?
Now of course there is nuance, rules, expectations, protections for innocent people, etc. That goes without saying.
But on principle, should we as Christians be against ending horrific violent dangerous people's lives after investigations?
Did we get lost in the sauce of compassion? Tolerance? Political correctness?
There's arguments to be made for and against through those. Absolutely.
But
What does The Lord say about the death penalty?
The word says:
“The righteous will rejoice when he sees the vengeance; he will bathe his feet in the blood of the wicked. Mankind will say, “Surely there is a reward for the righteous; surely there is a God who judges on earth.””
Psalm 58:10-11 ESV

That might be shocking to read for some.
What if Christians in modern day America lost sight on justice?
Is it just to let violent people live, giving them the chance to abuse women and children again in the future? Is that justice?
Is it just to keep them on planet earth, instead of sending them to stand before The Lord almighty? Are we playing god by keeping them here?
Shouldn't we be celebrating when someone is send immediately to stand before The Lord to be judged and have justice carried out?
Isn't justice, real justice, having The Lord judge someone? And that can only happen after a person's time on planet Earth has truly ended.
Do Christians in America today refuse to celebrate evil removed from the planet because we want to be "compassionate" and "understanding" and we're too agreeable?
Yet right there in the Psalms in the Word of God...
"The righteous will rejoice when he sees the vengeance; he will bathe his feet in the blood of the wicked"
Something to think about.
Something to wrestle with.
