Compassion Can Be UN-Biblical

Compassion Can Be UN-Biblical

Reading through the Bible multiple times amplifies understanding by exponential amounts. Not because we learn, but because The Lord shows us new things each time. There is so much value in reading it again and again.

Especially if you want to improve. Especially if you want a better heart and mind. Nothing wrong with wanting to be better for selfish reasons. Wanting to be a better person is a good desire to feel!

I ran into this again and it hit differently when I read it.

“A wise king winnows out the wicked; he drives the threshing wheel over them.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭20‬:‭26‬ ‭NIV‬‬

There's a lot of conversation these days about compassion, toxic compassion, suicidal compassion. And after a couple of decades of people yelling and stomping their feet about being more compassionate there was a breaking point.

When the same people calling for compassion and women's rights started saying we need to have more compassion for rapists than women who are raped, because the rapist came from a bad childhood... they lost the plot and the society.

Which makes The Word here stand out even more. Not because it's about compassion or not being compassionate. But because it says a wise king winnows out the wicked.

Winnow: To blow (chaff) off or away

Wisdom is to push or keep wickedness away from you. Which is not the "compassion" of modern day where you turn a blind eye, give them a home, remove consequences from their actions.

Wickedness needs to be exiled away. Meaning it should be punished. And wicked people need to be handed the consequences of their wickedness.

To blow something off or away is to quite literally be intolerant. To be strong handed.

Which lead me to this:

You cannot be obeying The Lord if you are unwilling to take the whip to the money changers...
